Page and Joe from Albuquerque, NM - Married at Barr Mansion in Austin, Tx.

From Page:

Joe and I, both born and raised in the Southwest, met in 2004 in the least likely of places—at Lehigh University in eastern Pennsylvania. After graduation, we knew it was time to move back west, closer to home. After a stint of Joe living in Scottsdale and me returning to my hometown of Austin, we began to feel the strain of being in a long-distance relationship. In 2006, we decided to meet in the middle and relocated to Albuquerque, New Mexico. I really think that’s when we knew we were in it, together, for the long haul.

When Joe popped the question in New York City in December 2011, we knew we wanted to get married in Austin. The search began for a venue that captured the beauty and history of central Texas, but also wasn't too stuffy (Joe and I are not fancy people!). The majority of our guests were from out of state, so our first priority was to find a super cool spot for our celebration. We wanted everyone to get the “true Austin experience”—a little bit of swank and a little bit of country.

I fell in love with the Barr Mansion the second I laid eyes on it. Despite the dreary February weather, the rustic mansion and the contemporary-but-comfortable artisan ballroom were the perfect combination of traditional and modern we were looking for. Our wedding day was picture-perfect: a mild, sunny April day gave way to a gorgeous, starry night full of fun. Everything was amazing.

When we woke up the next morning, we wished we could do it all over again. It was that perfect. In fact, we’re still looking for a reason to throw another huge party!

Lauren -N- Kevin / Chapel Dulcinea and Stonehouse Villa Wedding / Driftwood Wedding Photographer by Melanie Grizzel

Lauren and Kevin married at Chapel Dulcinea under the most perfect conditions ever, a little windy with beautiful blue skies. Their reception was held at Stonehouse Villa in beautiful Driftwood, Tx. They had some of the most amazing small touches that came together beautifully with Heather from Vintage&Lace at the helm. Lauren designed her bridesmaids dresses and had them custom made. Stems devised and orchestrated a gorgeous display of flowers in pale colors with touches of tea party silver and crystal and also elements of the outside with succulents and tree stumps. Guests noshed on tea sandwiches and scones from The Steeping Room and shared pints of mead and stout from the home brewing operations of both Lauren's and Kevin's Dads, and Michelle's Patisserie delivered my most favorite cake to date, built to Lauren's exact specifications - perfection.
From Lauren:
My Matron of Honor, Valery Hitt designed and sewed my wedding dress, train, sash embellishment, and hair adornments. She put a lot of time and love into everything that she did for my wedding and I really think that it all turned out beautifully. She is a dear dear person and immensely talented.
The bridesmaids dresses were designed by me (after some unfruitful searching for off-the-rack styles). They were patterned and sewn by Austin Bridal and Formal. They turned out beautifully and have already accomplished their goal of being worn beyond the wedding!
Terra Vista Strings met every request that I sent to them. So I got Final Fantasy VII music for my bridal processional and Concerning Hobbits for the wedding recessional. And then they played my Final Fantasy music again!!! It was awesome!
The song that Kevin and I danced to at the wedding was from a show called Pushing Daisies that we watched together when we first started dating. It is super cute and I think it will always remind us of when we first fell in love with each other.
My Maid of Honor Sarah Nelson drove all the way up from Houston almost every weekend for a few months to teach us a dance for it. We think that we ended up doing a passable job of it on the day of the wedding.
The song that I danced to with my father was called Arirang which is a very very very old Korean folk song. It was one of the few Korean songs that my dad remembered my mom singing when they were younger.
I purchased my husband's ring from a jeweler named Johan Rust on Etsy. The center band of the ring is a seamless meteorite. Kevin is studying Astro-Engineering at UT and has always loved Outer Space so I had an engraving put on the inside of the ring that reads: Sic Itur Ad Astra 3113 It means "Thus you shall go to the stars." And the "3113" is the date of our wedding. I'm giving him a leg-up for anniversaries :)
The necklace that my husband gave to me on the day of the wedding has special significance to me. I was enamored with it at the jewelry shop and wanted very much to wear it on the day of my wedding. Kevin went behind my back and purchased it shortly afterwards. He gave it to my bridesmaid Elizabeth Boyd for safekeeping. And then he got everybody to lie to me for over half a year (including the wonderful shop owners at Franzetti's) about the disappearance of the necklace and prospective availability of another one.So I am very glad that everyone lied to me :p as it increased my delight on the day of my wedding. The large gem in the center of the star is a sapphire which was my only something blue on the day of the wedding. It will forever be a symbol of my husband's love and of the wondrous love and goodness of the people around me who aided him in giving me such a beautiful surprise.
My wedding ring was designed and made by McCoy Jewelcraft. Kevin's mother was a friend and client of theirs and they remembered her when Kevin and I came to have my ring made. They were very kind and helpful to us. They suggested that we bring in gold from broken or unused jewelry to help with the price of the ring. So my ring has gold from Kevin's class ring, my mom's old jewelry, gold and diamonds from my dad's second wedding ring (he and my  mom remarried each other), and gold most generously given from my lovely friend Elizabeth. The ring guard was the ring guard from my mom's first wedding ring. It was fixed and resized by McCoy's.  When we ordered my ring and turned in the gold for it, I told McCoy's that I trusted them to make a beautiful ring and left happily with no idea of what it was going to look like. When Kevin proposed to me that Christmas, he presented me with a ring beyond my imagination. It is beautiful and unlike any other.
The dollhouse was a project that Kevin and I started for the wedding. I thought that a dollhouse would be appropriate since we were asking for house money to put in savings in lieu of other gifts. We bought a $30 kit from Hobby Lobby and thought that it would be easy. I helped to paint the house and then Kevin did pretty much everything else and the project took on a life of its own. His original degree is in theater set design so I suppose it makes sense. He built a plot of land for it to sit on and put together all of the small details that made it charming. It was project that I thought would not last beyond a couple of weeks and it turned into a several month long adventure in arts and crafts.
It was a labor of love.

Emily -N- Blake / Inn at Wild Rose Hall / Austin Wedding Photographer by Melanie Grizzel

So we decided on the beautiful and rustic hill country venue of The Inn at Wild Rose Hall. I wore a short dress. The groomsmen wore jeans, the bridesmaids wore mix match navy dresses. And there were
Cowboy Boots! Lots of them. Both bride and groom wore Lucchese ;) I always loved the vintage feel of a birdcage veil, so I picked that, and rocked it, I must say.We served Matt's El Rancho, one of our favorite Austin Tex Mex joints. We served amazing cupcakes by the ever so talented Megan DuBois of Queen of the Frontier, she also created the rustic and beautiful display, mostly a collection of family dishes.
Did I mention I collect Coca Cola antiques? Because let me tell you my favorite part of our wedding. Well, other than marrying my knight. I had my florist Zinnia and Co. fill old wooden antique Coca Cola crates with beautiful baby's breath, billy balls, and candles. It was exactly how I pictured it in my head. Rustic, vintage, simple, casual, welcoming, warm, and unique.
We danced the night away and our wedding party did not dissapoint. We closed the place down with a 20 minute encore of Michael Jackson classics. Everything was perfectly and seamlessly stages and executed by Leah Robertson from Austin Elite.
I think one of my favorite moments was walking towards Blake, my arm wrapped up in my father's. This was it. It was finally here. And amongst all this planning and details, it came down to one thing. He was handsome, he was strong, he looked not-nervous. He looked happy. He looked ready. I am so proud of the man he has become and I can't wait for the years ahead of us

Arranged / Austin wedding Flowers / Austin Wedding Photography by Melanie Grizzel

Arranged is a newish florist in town. Rachel specializes in low and compact arrangements. She wanted to put together a cohesive collection of images for her modern foral website. We spent an afternoon together in December making arrangements, listening to Christmas music and photographing flowers. It was a delightful day. I can't wait  until next time.

Kelly -N- Stephen / Reimers Ranch Engagement Session / Austin Engagement Photography by Melanie Grizzel

Kelly, a student at UT, has been a rock climber/outdoors-lover since she was little when she shared these experiences with her father. Stephen was also student at UT, and while he was an outdoors-lover he had never rock-climbed in his life until the day he tried the UT climbing wall on a lark. His instructor?  Kelly. Stephen made his move, and while things may have started off a little rocky at first (haha-I kid), he soon began to grow on her. Now, they scale walls together and will make it official this fall.  It was perfect that they would choose Reimers Ranch for their engagement session, as it is the only natural climbing area in Austin. The acreage was once owned by Milton Reimer and was a favorite of many a climber. When he passed away, he left the land to the city under the condition that it remain a place for climbers to reach new heights. Since taking over the grounds, the city has worked to shape the area into a little bit more of an accessible park. It's among Kelly and Stephen's most favorite sanctuaries. Now, I'm not gonna lie folks... I was more than a little nervous a few times. I'm not much of outdoorsy type, I like city life and sidewalks. This was a stretch (literally) for me but I loved every minute of it.  And I thank these two so much for getting me out of my confort zone and into the wilderness. Another giant leap for She-N-He!
