Jenna -N- Ricardo met while attending the University of Texas. Ricardo graduated and moved to NYC to work in finance, Jenna stuck around to wrap up her degree and one year later followed. They recently relocated to Jersey City where they're happy and have a bigger space. Their wedding will be held next year at the Hummingbird House and they plan to resume their residence in the tri-state area, at least for a little while. I'm jealous. Thanks for having me along for the ride guys. I look forward to next year!

Barr Mansion Tasting Event - Barr Mansion Weddings - Austin Wedding Photographer /
The date is set and the location chosen. Now for the food! Thats what several couples were thinking August 6th, when they came out to Barr Mansion to sample the food they had been hearing about. All organic, of course. Nothing but a minimal carbon foot print for the ever earth-friendly Barr Mansion. The highlight, and incidentally the centerpiece of the evening, was the butternut squash martini bar complete with brown sugar for the sweet and roasted seeds for the savory lovers. It was a beautiful evening all around, and love was in the air! Exquisite floral design was supplied by the brilliant Abbey Dagle of Stems Floral Design. The scene was set and carried through by the creative folks from Loot Vintage Rental. We had a great time and the food... delish. But we expected that!

Lewis Family - A south Congress Family Portrait - Austin Family Photographer /
Leila surprised her husband with a Father's Day family session. Clearly he must have known something, I'm not sure they travel in matching outfits. Or perhaps they do ;) They did great! And here I thought I was working with normal people and Ben pops out with "Depth of Field" and I knew I was working with people who can "See". Little Ben, the 2 year old, was the best baby I have ever worked with, hands down. Way better than my own 2 year old. Leila was photographed on South Congress for her maternity shots a few years ago, so they chose that location again. It's an over used area. I try not to shoot there that much but it does make it that much more fresh for me when I do get down there. I do love exploring the area. The Lewis Family was WONDERFUL to work with. I hope to work with them again. Thanks for having me.
Amanda -N- Jason - a destination elopement - Inn at Wild Rose Hall - Austin Wedding Photography /
Amanda and Jason met on an online dating service. Perfect match. They love the same things, they laugh at each other's jokes. They are so fun. To say that Amanda is obsessed with owls would be a gross understatement. When Jason proposed to Amanda he rented and wore a gigantic owl costume and she only knew it was him cause she spotted his shoes underneath. She said yes and the date was set for July 3. Then somewhere in the mix they decided to instead elope. They found a location, The Inn at Wild Rose Hall in Austin, Tx from Offbeat Bride. Austin was not a place that either had ever been. They picked it out of the clear blue sky from only having seen the pictures on Offbeat Bride. They invited all of their guests to an engagement party on May 15 in WI. Jason even took a call from one of their guests and said "Yeah, we're right around the corner."
They and their 2 guests, myself and their officiant turned off our cell phones and turned on the cameras and the rest is history. It was a elopement. They also had a reception for friends and relatives in WI on their planned July 3rd.
Amanda is a DIYer and she made her bouquet, the boutonnieres, handbags for she and her "bridesmaids," and invitations. She carried it all to Austin in their suitcases. She wore her Grandmother's pearls and a very Marilyn gown. They hired a personal chef to prepare their first meal as husband and wife, The Red Headed Chef. What did they have you ask? Diner food. Omelets, bacon, home-fries, and local artisan bread. And to complete their quadruple threat of great Austin vendors, The Knot Tyer. He really took the time to get to know them and was able to connect with them even before they came for their wedding day. It was one of our favorites.
Keri -N- Justin - A wedding at Vineyard at Florence - Austin Wedding Photography /
Keri and Justin, adorable, no? And totally amazing. So much fun to spend time with and that's how photographing their wedding felt, like we were guests. The were married in an intimate service at The Vineyard at Florence. There wanted to keep it simple so they did not have a wedding party, their flowers, from Petal Pushers, were extraordinary. Hair and Make-up by the super amazingly talented miss Erica Gray. Southern's fine dining kicked off the party with down home cooking including fried green tomatoes. yummo!
We met quite a while ago and with some pressing we figured out that Keri and my sister (who lives in D/FW) used to work together. weird. small world.

Maggie - Laguna Gloria Bridal Portrait - Austin Wedding Photographer /
I am absolutely in LOVE with these two bridal shots from Maggie's recent bridal session at Laguna Gloria. I was awfully proud of them, if you're like me, you've seen it all. Sometimes it's nice to push the envelope a little. Maggie and Brooke were right there with me. Thanks guys for trusting me, and trying "weird" stuff for the sake of art! Their wedding is now in the past and their future is only beginning. Congratulations to you, Maggie and Jay!

Happy Father's Day! - personal - Austin Wedding Photographer /
Since B was born I always wanted to introduce him to cooking in the kitchen with Mama. It's one of my most favorite things and I think he would like it too. He really likes to eat. So we started off with sifting flour, he thinks sifting flour from a height of about 2 feet looked "pretty," then we segued into stirring which was a hit, but then the train jumped the track when he decided to eat the pancakes dry ingredients.
B has been going through a particularly whiney period and it's been driving Mommy and Daddy up a wall. But when you get a little of this, albeit fleeting, it's almost worth it. I said almost.
Then we woke Daddy up and brought him his breakfast and gifts.
Then the day turns back into Bishop Day, like every other day.

All the best.

End of an Era - Personal - Austin Wedding Photographer /
Today is the day Patty and Jim Howe (my husband's parents) sign the deed away to their home of 33 years on Guava Avenue in Seal Beach, CA. Later this month, they will become Austinites. My husband grew up in this house on Guava. We went back in May to say goodbye to the house, and strangely it wasn't as hard as we thought it would be. Steve says "the house has been changed so much, it's not the house where I grew up anymore."
I have been with my husband for 10 years and I remember meeting my MIL for the first time in that house. It is the same house to me, most of those changes were made by the time I came into their lives. I have so many memories in that house. I remember the drive from the airport to their house the very first time I ever went to CA, specifically the vegetation. When we got there I was beyond thrilled with my MIL's garden. Flawless. Patty and I had many glasses of wine while we sat in the garden and learned all about each other. We had wine and chatted while we made meals together or pruned the garden and chatted. We did a lot of chatting.
Now I have a whole flood of memories coming back to me... I remember coming home from Brad and Anna's wedding, for no particular reason, I just remember that night as being something special. My bridal shower was a year or so later, held across the cul-de-sac at Holly's house. Patty's four best girlfriends Holly, Lois, Katharine, and Ginny got together and created an amazing wedding shower for us. After our wedding in NY, Patty threw us a reception in the backyard with all of her cousins and close friends from CA who couldn't trek to New York. While my husband did a show in NY, I went to stay with my in-laws for a week alone for his cousin's wedding. Patty and I had a great time! There was the wedding, but also the small dinner party we threw for Grandma Peggy and Kitty in the backyard. It was an awesome night, though maybe we had a little too much wine! We over-cooked the pork loin and completely cremated the vegetables and Kitty asked, "where are those gorgeous veggies I saw on the counter?". And as if it were on queue, Disneyland's fireworks started firing. Amazing night! The next year we went for Thanksgiving and the dining room was a little small for everyone so we folded out a couple of kids tables (mind you most of us are in our mid-30's already). It was at that dinner that we discussed our readiness to have a baby and within months of that chat, Brad and Anna announced their pregnancy and within 3 months of them, we announced the same. B has been to CA several times since he was born: once for Christmas and many little trips here and there, including Grandma Peggy's memorial in 2009.
The things I'll miss most about that house and Southern California? The weather. That glorious weather! The way the air feels in the morning blowing through those curtains in the guest room. Coffee and the paper in the breakfast nook. The Beach. The flowers, all the colors. The fountain and the smell of the backyard. Ralphs. In-N-Out (duh). Red Vines. The way you feel when you set down your luggage. Walks around the neighborhood. Grandma Peggy's beach house homeyness. Now it's Brian and Janet's house and it's just as comforting to be there. I'll miss seeing Kyle and Kelsi so much, I've known them since they were in Jr High. Brian and Janet, Steve's crazy hilarious aunt and uncle, I will miss them very much too.
Over the course of the last week, Patty and Jim have collected and packed all of these amazing memories into boxes for storage, while they make their way to Austin and a new life. A life that includes watching Baby Bishop growing up on a daily basis. She'll make all new friends and find new organizations, buy a new house to make all new memories. She and Jim have never lived more than one hour from where they live right now. Her Women's Club friends have been with her for 40+ years. She is passing it all up for B. He better be a good boy. No more toilet brush eating kid. The pressure is on for sure!
This is why they're coming!

Kelly -N- Jeff Married! - Inn at Wild Rose Hall - Austin Wedding Photography /
Kelly and Jeffrey met while she was tending bar in Washington DC and attending school. She vowed she would not date a customer, but slipped him her number on a CC receipt and the rest is history. They currently live in the Bay area. They chose to have a wedding in Austin, Tx because she has family here.
It was important to them to leave a small carbon footprint so she used all locally-sourced vendors. Including hand-picking wild flowers from a Arnosky Wildflower Farm. Their entire vegan menu and cupcakes came from Green Island Catering. They also wanted to work with local woman-owned businesses The Inn at Wild Rose Hall and She-N-He among them.

Megan -N- Tim Engaged! - Austin Engagement Photographer /
Megan has been besties with one of our December brides since they were babies. She caught wind of Audrey's engagement session on facebook. Flash forward, Tim proposes to Miss DuBois in May and now it's Megan's turn for a portrait session. She chose a fishing themed engagement session. We had such a fun time traipsing through the low water rising in a small low key park in Kyle Texas. It was gorgeous, I just love when our couples are married to an idea it makes things so wonderful and inspiring to photograph. Congratulations guys!
We love you Melanie! You are the bee's knees in our book : ] ---Megan
