Audrey -N- Christian / Allen House Wedding / Austin Wedding Photographer by Melanie Grizzel

Audrey and Christian tied the knot the week of Christmas, since their both teachers, what better time?

They met in high school band in south Texas. Both went to University to study music, both went to South Africa to teach music and they both now teach music here in Austin. Christian, high school band, and Audrey, elementary school music. I usually only cry once at every wedding; when the bride is walking down the aisle. I cried several times during their wedding. There was so much music and I simply can't keep dry eyes when there is that much passion in one room. Singing during the service to remember all of the people they have loved and lost, singing for their prayer before dinner, big band playing and Aunt Linda bringing down the house with her rendition of "At Last." I am tearing up again just thinking of the divine evening it was.

Their wedding was held at Allen House with Lindy Floral providing all of the delicate floral details!

Thank you Audrey and Christian for having us. It was one of the best times we have ever had.

An Outtake / Design Firm - Birmingham / Austin Commercial Photographer by Melanie Grizzel

Monday morning I got a call from a Birmingham design firm to photograph... something (embargo.) They knew they just had this one shot at it, as the team was on the road and headed home. Tuesday morning at, clearly, the break of day I photographed this lovely man next to his beloved truck. I love my job, I have done and seen so many interesting things. That's what I am thankful for.

Ragan -N- Harley / Fredricksburg Engagement session / Ausitn Engagement Photographer by Melanie Grizzel

Engagements (or more to the point, engagement photography sessions) are in peak season again, and we are out there shooting up a storm. However, it is so nice when one of our couples, like Ragan and Harley, ask us to photograph them in a new place. It really gets my juices flowing. We decided on a little of downtown and a lot in a Peach orchard.  Sadly, the peach crops were dismal this year with the drought but the farmers we spoke with were up beat and positive for next year!

We found an orchard that was confirmed by many to be the prettiest orchard in all of Fredricksburg. The farmer/owner I spoke with was delightful, not only willing but over-the-top accommodating. When we arrived, he had even asked his farm hands to mow some of the grass between two particularly beautiful lines of trees and marked it off for us. It was a gorgeous afternoon and I was so lucky to work with such a lovely couple in an incredibly exciting and new location.

Thank you everyone!

Charming South Austin Backyard wedding - Austin Wedding Photography by Melanie Grizzel

South Austin, Charming Backyard Wedding, mature bride and groom, mature couple, classic corvette, mason jars, white flowers, , Denise and Dan... What can I say. I spoke with Denise about 2 months ago by phone, we got on so well she booked us on the spot.

She and Dan have been working on the remodel of their home for 2+ years and they knew this year was the year to finish. With their wedding last week they wanted to have a wedding and a house warming, rolled into one. "It's a dinner party, with a ceremony." says Denise, she wanted to make sure, above all else, it was comfortable and casual and she wanted it captured just that way. Sounds good to me!

I giggled briefly about how exciting their job must be. :) Maggie was quick to remind me that without her division, B would likely be peeing all over the place with no substance in that diaper to keep it tidy. THANK YOU MAGGIE!

They are a perfect match: a little of this, a little of that, and WILDLY IN LOVE. I am so happy for you guys. Congratulations!

Mitzey - Ella - Delilah - Austin Wedding Photographer by Melanie Grizzel

art, creative, wedding photography, model, mannequinOn our last style shoot we wanted to incorporate fashion but knew that our time was crunched. We opted for a mannequin who could take on the persona of any of our concepts. For each concept she had a new name. To get started I went with Mitzey, you'll see why shortly. For the second shoot, we all came up with Ella and then at the end of the day, Delilah was the overwhelming consensus. I am still editing and processing.  I can't wait to share it!  Soon. Very soon. Here she sits in the window at the first morning's light, waiting for her lift home.

Thank you Leslie from Dress Shop for our muse.

Anna -N- Rohan / Thurman's Mansion Wedding / Austin Wedding Photographer by Melanie Grizzel

bride and groom Anna -N- Rohan

were wed at the end of May at the lovely Thuman's Mansion in Driftwood, Tx. Anna had her heart set on a destination wedding but decided Austin would be destination enough from the pairs D/FW digs. They chose the mansion for Rohan's deep love of BBQ (they are run by and are 100 feet from the famous BBQ house Salt Lick.) Keri from Wow Factor was responsible for those gorgeous flowers.

After only one teeny, set -back Anna was stung by a wasp, on the finger before their grand entrance into the hall. She shook it off like a champ.  The party got started right with BBQ and Heineken. Then dancing, tons of dancing, cake cutting and eating and Anna' Grandpa leading the charge with an effervescent  choreographed version of YMCA! I haven't laughed that hard in a long long time. Thank you for having us guys!

Congratulations to you, we wish you all the best.

Amanda -N- Jason - a destination elopement - Inn at Wild Rose Hall - Austin Wedding Photography by Melanie Grizzel

hand made, DIY, button bouquet, blue, Inn Wild Rose Hall Amanda and Jason met on an online dating service. Perfect match. They love the same things, they laugh at each other's jokes. They are so fun. To say that Amanda is obsessed with owls would be a gross understatement. When Jason proposed to Amanda he rented and wore a gigantic owl costume and she only knew it was him cause she spotted his shoes underneath. She said yes and the date was set for July 3. Then somewhere in the mix they decided to instead elope. They found a location, The Inn at Wild Rose Hall in Austin, Tx from Offbeat Bride. Austin was not a place that either had ever been. They picked it out of the clear blue sky from only having seen the  pictures on Offbeat Bride. They invited all of their guests to an engagement party on May 15 in WI. Jason even took a call from one of their guests and said "Yeah, we're right around the corner."

They and their 2 guests, myself and their officiant turned off our cell phones and turned on the cameras and the rest is history. It was a  elopement. They also had a reception for friends and relatives in WI on their planned July 3rd.

Amanda is a DIYer and she made her bouquet, the boutonnieres, handbags for she and her "bridesmaids," and invitations.  She carried it all to Austin in their suitcases. She wore her Grandmother's pearls and a very Marilyn gown. They hired a personal chef to prepare their first meal as husband and wife, The Red Headed Chef. What did they have you ask? Diner food. Omelets, bacon, home-fries, and local artisan bread. And to complete their quadruple threat of great Austin vendors, The Knot Tyer. He really took the time to get to know them and was able to connect with them even before they came for their wedding day. It was one of our favorites.

AMAZING!!!! I can't say it enough :) I love walking into our place and seeing those photos all over our walls. Melanie made us feel so comfortable and relaxed, and she knew exactly what I wanted for our wedding day. We've been getting tons of compliments on the photos already. Everyone keeps saying " i love how different they are from 'regular' wedding photos" and I keep saying, that is EXACTLY why we hired her. She was so flexible and understanding and patient. The photos are my favorite thing about our wedding. They hold all the memories that are so so so dear to us.

Introducing Carly Bradshaw - Austin Wedding Photography by Melanie Grizzel

austin wedding photography

Can you tell me about your wedding?

My wedding was a wonderful, simple yet intricate, bright celebration on July 4th!  It was held at a beautiful winery in the Texas Hill Country and was a beautiful mixture of yellows, oranges, and greens.  Most importantly, it was full of meaningful family participation and we were surrounded by amazing friends who all love us dearly!  The celebration was amazing and the party never stopped!

What was most important to you before the wedding? And after?

Before the wedding, I stressed A LOT about numbers.  The venue claimed to only hold 250 comfortably, but we had over 300 people RSVP!  Since it was an out-of-town wedding, and on July 4th, we were amazed that so many people wanted to come.  Once we got over the shock, I became determined to make everything work perfectly!  The most important thing to me was planning everything down to the wire.  But, after the wedding, the most important thing has been the pictures and the video (which is still in production).  I feel like I probably missed a lot of stuff during the ceremony and reception, so seeing the pictures has been a real treat.  I can't wait for the video!  The memories are the most important thing, now!

What was the most memorable detail?

The fireworks!!  A lot of things had to play into the fireworks show working out perfectly - there was a hurricane in Austin the week/day before and we weren't even sure we'd be able to have the show... in the end, because of other cancelled fireworks shows in the area with our company, we ended up getting a super lengthy AMAZING fireworks show that everyone is still raving about!

What was the greatest detail from your wedding?

To me, the greatest details was my amazing dress.  It was actually my second dress - exactly one week before my bridal portraits, I had a personal freak-out moment about my first dress and the styling (my hair, jewelry, etc.); so, not only did I have to buy a new dress one week before portraits, I also had to buy a new hair piece AND had to find something that I didn't need to altar! In the end, I found the PERFECT dress and am so glad I went with my gut feeling!

Do you have any regrets?

I would like to say I have no regrets, but I definitely can think of two.

1. I tried out a few places before I decided on my final floral arrangement company and I wish I would have gone with my gut feeling on that, too.  In the end, the place I chose provided me with wilted, browning flowers on my big day. (I was furious.)  My 2nd choice was the Blooms floral department with HEB - I was hesitant because I wanted [what I thought was] the more experienced florist.  Looking back, I regret not going with Blooms.  I thought that more expensive meant better, but that wasn't the case with this.

2. I regret not starting the ceremony 30 minutes earlier.  I was told that taking pictures between the ceremony and reception would be tight - but I didn't realize what I would lose in the process.  I got no good individual pictures with each of my bridesmaids and I'm super sad about that.  I highly recommend scheduling time to take individual pictures with each of your bridesmaids!

Come to meet Carly, Linsey, Amanda, and Brandi. They will be at our Bridal Q&A. Hear their stories first hand and ask questions of our expert vendors.

See you there.

10-15-09 Off to a Thursday Wedding by Melanie Grizzel

Today I have the pleasure of shooting Devon and Alberto's wedding.

They met while attending West Point together and married while on active duty in Iraq. They had a hard time finding a place to get married all of the other enlisted folks could easily point out 6 places to get divorced, none of them knew where to tie the knot. Devon was working in intelligence and Alberto spent upwards of 9 months building a new base. Devon got Alberto's power of attorney and went to the Justice of the Peace and married them in his absence and sent him a surprise wedding ring through military post. When their missions were complete they returned to the states and began their lives together which includes this intimate little Thursday wedding at a Salado Winery. I feel so proud. Thank you for including me.
Stay tuned. I hope to blog Nancy + John's wedding tomorrow afternoon.
Take good care.

9.24.09 So Excited by Melanie Grizzel

So I shot a bridal session with Nancy and her mom on Sunday and of course I'm not allowed to share any of them with you guys, just yet. Her wedding is on October 3rd so you can bet I am going to race to get them up on October 4th. In the mean time I was so moved by the images that I sent them all around to my favorite wedding inspiration websites and 1 of them has decided to repost them a week after Nancy's wedding.

Lolliblog will be doing the reposting. I am super excited to be included, based on her past posts, I will be in perfect company.
Remember to pop by on October 4th to see them first.
I can't wait to share it with  you guys.
Have a great day.
Be Well,
