South Congress Engagement session - The couple is from Ohio and wanted t pay tribute to their new town, so we scouted and played on South Congress and even found a couple new spots to shoot! I am mad for this blue building and the red and white striped stage set-up, I hope it stays for good. Poor Mike jammed his eye ball out in an unfortunate intoxicated revelry injury for his birthday, so i had to avoid his eyes. He couldn't really keep them open very well. But we did well considering. He went to the doc on Monday and he lost most of his cornea, had to wear and eye patch, too bad we couldn't have waited one extra day! Enjoy.

Tuesday Fall Wedding at Barr Mansion - Austin, Tx

We grew the dahlias which were the flowers in the bouquets, the flower girl's headpiece, and the Moms' wrist flowers. We ordered the tubers for the dahlias from Swan Island Dahlias and planted at the end of April. Dahlias don't really like to be super hot so south Louisiana conditions were not ideal for production, but it was a really fun experience. We planted them at my mom's house, and my brother helped with the planting. We had pretty fresh cut flowers constantly for the few months before the wedding. We had a few back up plans since we didn't really know what to expect having never grown dahlias, but the one we went with was picking up whatever flowers we needed from somewhere in Austin, to supplement the dahlias. I'll include their info in the vendors info that I'm collecting.

A few of the wine bottles had been collected over the years, champagne bottle from the bachelorette party, a few wine bottles from a couples shower, then friends had a few too. We scraped the labels, and painted with chalk paint. They were used as vases and table markers. The candles were made by my brother. He used our old jars to make about 70 candles. It was his first experience as a candle maker and extremely successful. The chalkboards were all things we collected and painted with chalkboard paint. I could keep going... so many details.

I loved this shoot for Camille Style blog. It's a wonderful high styled shoot, inspired on Clue the board game for Halloween. Jennifer Rose Smith concepted and styles this shoot with the help of Loot Vintage Rentals on set design and various lovely ladies behind those killer costumes. I loved working on this shoot with this team.

I hope your Halloween was fun and safe, and you all got to figure out "who done it?"

Next Up, Thanksgiving, I can hardly wait! I am already getting my table dressing ready to go, with some new plum colored napkins from West Elm and some fresh paint on the dining room walls and TBA chandelier above the table. We have a lot of family headed down here so we're pretty excited.

I LOVE when a couple says "I have this idea," and then let's me run with it. Not only let's me run with it, but completely trusts me with every aspect of production. Cheers to you two, we did well! Truth be told I moved into the neighborhood where this Whataburger is 7 years ago, and I was immediately enchanted with those stripes! I have wanted to photograph there forever but could never find the right subject(s) for it. Enter Cassie, she came to me with this Whataburger idea, I told her about this location and she said, "that's the one we were thinking of." Seriously, does it get any better than that?! I don't think so. I'll be photographing their wedding next weekend at Camp Lucy and I just can't wait to see them again, they are sweetest and funniest folks.

Erica Gray (hair and make-up) woke up at the ungodly hour of 3am to make me happy for the light. She is A-Mazing! And look at the work she did!! No man is an island - a great team is what makes it all come together.

My husband and I met after college while working on Capitol Hill in Washington, DC. After several years of dating, my now husband proposed to me on the Floor of the U.S. House of Representatives, and after saying “yes,” we were greeted by our parents (who he had flown in from Texas and Tennessee) on the Speaker’s balcony in the U.S. Capitol overlooking the National mall. What can I say… he is a great planner! While we fell in love in DC, there was no question in my mind that we would get married in Austin – my hometown and one of my favorite places in the world. Since I went to college in Southern California and my husband went to college in Chicago and his family is from the Midwest and the South and we live in DC, we knew most of our guests would be coming from out of town and had not been to Austin before, so we wanted them to have the full Austin experience. We had in mind a venue that was out in the Hill Country (hopefully with a view of the lake) but not too far from downtown and the airport and Vintage Villas was the perfect fit. My husband and I both have very demanding and unpredictable jobs, so my parents signed the contract with Vintage Villas sight unseen to us and thankfully it all worked out great! Also, a few months before the wedding we found out that we would be moving to Chicago at the end of the summer, so my husband could start business school in the fall. Needless to say, planning a wedding out of state in the midst of everything else going on was pretty stressful at times, but my mom and I also really enjoyed working together on the décor and all the little details, and it ended up being the most amazing weekend ever. I was pretty stressed in the few weeks leading up to the wedding weekend, but somehow I relaxed once I finally got to Austin and my family and friends started arriving. It was so much fun having so many of our very favorite people from all over the country together and able to celebrate with us in my hometown! I was pretty convinced I was going to forget something major for the wedding, but somehow it all worked out and it didn't rain. With all of that said, we owe a huge thanks to God for bringing us together, for our family and friends who traveled near but mostly far to celebrate with us, and to our amazing parents and vendors who were so patient with us and worked so hard to help us pull off our special day!

Brooke and Casey met in college, dated forever, had the sweetest baby girl. And then got married, this spring at the wedding of their dreams at Umlauf Sculpture Garden. Brooke is an amazing artist/sculptor, her work is through out this wedding with the dessert table display, all of the rustic wooden table decor and all of the fabric wrapped trees. The paper flower bouquets and boutonnieres are hers too. Don't worry ladies, I think the plan it wo open an Etsy Shop. I'll keep you posted.

Muslim-Americans have a challenging time finding spouses. It's never called "dating" when two people are getting to know each other; usually "talking." People meet through dating sites, introductions through friends, family, or other networks, and a few meet spontaneously on their own.

Ammar and I were introduced by my sister and brother-in-law, and talked to each other for about a year until the conversation turned to wedding planning. We were a long-distance couple from the start, and remain that way even now after we've said our vows and cut our cake. We met on a blind double-date March 2011, and on Cinco de Mayo 2012, the same evening as the Supermoon, Ammar proposed on top of the 360 bridge in Austin.

Our families are of different cultures, and it was important to us to respect both and also have a wedding that was uniquely our own. We visited 3 places one super hot day in July 2012; the Barton Creek Resort and Spa was the last place we saw that day and the minute we looked around we said "yep, this is it." We loved planning our wedding, and picked our florist, videographer, save the dates, and menu together without any meltdowns, and had some pretty fun experiences with the people we ended up not picking. Strangely we did not even meet Melanie until the week of the wedding.

We did not register for presents since we didn't want to store a bunch of household items when we weren't even going to live together for another year or two, and instead registered through the "I Do" Foundation for donations to be made to a couple good causes near and dear to us both, the Human Development Foundation and Women for Afghan Women. Our guests raised a little more than $2000 for the two charities combined.

A friend told me that planning a wedding together would be a glimpse for us of what it would be like to be married. I am so glad that for us it was not only fun, but I found that we consistently took the time to be considerate and kind to each other, and really try to make sure the other person was happy throughout the process. We even had two sets of wedding invitations printed because we couldn't quite agree on the same color - and at the end of the day, that is fine! (Although, the bedroom furniture will have to be 1 color, Ammar!) :)

We had so much fun at the wedding, and we are so blessed to have had so many of our friends and family travel from all over, one cousin even from Australia, to celebrate with us. When we sat looking out at our family and friends in this beautifully decorated venue on the evening of the wedding, it was really cool and special knowing that it was a product of both of our efforts, combining both our tastes and vision for the evening. As far as microcosms go, I think this was a great preview of what is ahead. :)

We wanted small, intimate and romantic. It became clear, small wasn't going to happen, but we still wanted everything and everyone to feel intimately involved in the wedding. We wanted people near us when we said our vows and we wanted people near us as we celebrated after the ceremony. When we decided on our venue, the Ladybird Johnson Wildflower Center, we didn't have to add much in terms of decor. It is so beautiful on it's own that we only added things that would compliment the venue. For us, it was always about creating an atmosphere of love and a feeling of unity. When our vendors asked what we wanted, we'd typically say a classy dinner party in the garden... but where men can loosen they're ties and women can kick off their shoes to have a good time.

What mattered most when we started is the same as what mattered to us in the end... initmacy. We wanted to be able to talk to everyone and have everyone talk to each other. We wanted people to feel comfortable. We wanted comfort food which is why we chose Italian (executed perfectly by Pink Avocado.) We wanted people to dance and sing along to the songs and laugh and cry and cheer. It sounds cheesy... but the more I look back on our wedding, the more I love it.

My favorite thing was our fabric backdrop at our ceremony site. I had seen something similar on a website and instantly fell in love! My mom and I went shopping for the fabric and she took over from there. Then she and my Dad figured out how to string it across the steps. It felt like a family project; it felt so personal and it turned out beautifully.

I also really loved our dessert table and our sign in table. I made most of and painted all of the platters on the dessert table. It was a labor of love. I covered all the books used at the dessert table and sign in table. I wanted the decor to feel natural and easy so as not to distract from the scenery at the Wildflower Center.

Now through school, engaged, and headed down their respective career paths this Austin couple is staking their claim in here. They're building from scratch, their own home. So in between working and throwing a wedding in just 7 months, they also get to pick out door handles and paint colors. Why not just do it all at once! We're looking forward to their wedding in Early 2013 at Austin Country Club.

Our designer James Boone, from MyJamJam, brought in 4 dresses to choose from, and this silver workman number appeared to have a story built right it. We chose our model Lailani, Campbell Agency, Dallas, based on her androgynous look. Great bone structure and short boyish hair. During our first meeting with the crew, also including , stylist, Jenna Hollerbach and make-up and hair artist, Erica Gray we chose the dress, the model, and our concept. We found a garage, Tech One Automotive, which incidentally is out family garage and we love them! They said yes, and gave us a few hours in the shop to make our concept a reality. Lastly we had to find a car, we found a few inspirations shots that would be great under the hood of a car, not pin-up style... 4 Leaf Limo came through with flying colors, gorgeous! I'm very proud of the work we put together. I think of myself often as a closet fashion photographer ;)
